From a backyard gone wild to a whole subdivision, the machine and the method are matched to the vegetation and the access.
Every job follows the same sequence, whether it's a single trench or a full site cut.
A trench can be a day, a basement can be weeks. Dates come with the quote, not after.
Excavators are sized in tonnes, and the size decides both what it can dig and whether it fits your block. We bring the one that suits the job, not whatever's parked up.
Most Sydney land clearing starts with a walk over the block and a look at the council's tree rules. Anything over the protected size, anything native in a mapped area, and anything on a bushfire-prone lot is flagged before a quote goes out, because clearing without approval where it's needed is expensive to undo. Dial Before You Dig comes back at the same time, since old blocks often have services running where nobody remembers.
The clearing itself works from the top down. Light growth, shrubs and small trees are pushed and piled first so the machine can see the ground. Larger trees are felled and cut into lengths, then the stumps are grubbed: the bucket or grab works around the root ball, breaks the roots and lifts the whole thing clear. Cutting a stump flush and leaving it is faster and cheaper, and it's the reason so many "cleared" blocks sink and sprout a year later.
What happens to the green waste depends on the plan. On acreage it's often chipped on site and spread as mulch or stockpiled. On tight suburban blocks there's nowhere to put it, so it's loaded and carted. Rubbish, old fencing and any buried debris that turns up goes the same way.
Once the vegetation is gone, the holes left by stumps are filled and the ground is graded even. If the block is going straight to a build, the topsoil is stripped and stockpiled so the earthworks can start on clean ground. If it's being sold or landscaped, it's left level and tidy.
The finished site should be one a surveyor can peg, a builder can set out on, or a landscaper can plan from, without anyone needing to come back and pull out what was missed.
It depends on how much vegetation there is, how big the trees and stumps are, access for the machine and what happens to the green waste. A backyard is a very different job to an acreage block. Every job gets a written quote after a site look, covering clearing, stump removal and disposal, so you know what’s included before anything starts.
Often, yes. Most Sydney councils protect trees over a set height or trunk diameter, and vegetation in bushfire-prone or mapped areas has its own rules. We flag anything that looks like it needs approval before quoting; the approval itself sits with you or your certifier.
Yes. Stumps are grubbed out with the root ball rather than cut flush, so nothing regrows or sinks later. The holes are filled and levelled before we leave.
Either mulched on site for reuse or loaded out and carted, depending on the block and what you want. Rubbish and debris is carted. Disposal is spelled out in the quote.
Yes. Mini excavators handle side-gate access and small backyards, with larger machines for open blocks. Access usually decides the machine and we size it to the site.
Yes. Once the vegetation and stumps are out, the ground is graded even and left workable. If earthworks follow, topsoil is stripped ready for the cut.
Usually. After demolition, what’s left of the garden, fencing and slab is cleared and the site stripped before the new build’s earthworks begin. It can be quoted as one job with the demolition and excavation.
